Slade Signed Padgate Gig Contract 1971

An original gig contract for Slade to play Padgate College (nr. Warrington), 18th June 1971. The contract has been signed by Slade's manager, ex-Animals Chas Chandler.

This is a fascinating piece of Slade memorabilia, not only because it's early but because it marks Slade's "breakthrough" point. Originally called Ambrose Slade & presented as a skinhead band, Slade were recording & touring from 1969. However, it was not till '71 that the band had any chart success & wider recognition, this being delivered by the single "Get Down & Get With It". This single peaked at #16 in the charts on the 19th June, just one day after the Padgate gig, so gig attendees at this relatively small live venue were treated to a performance by a top 20 band who were destined to have enormous success in the next 4 years (14 top 20 singles & 5 top 10 albums, including 3 # 1's during the period 1971-75).

Slight paper loss to upper left corner.
